Sometime ago I had the opportunity to take my grandkids to the Atlanta Zoo. The fine folk at the Atlanta Zoo have an exchange program with the Beijing Zoo in China. They sent us a male and a female giant panda and we sent them a possum, raccoon, two squirrels, as well as Ted Ted and Jane Jane.
Apparently the sunny climes of the Old South have been seriously hospitable for our visiting guests. A traditionally shy and reluctant breeder in captivity, these two pandas, the female Lun Lun, pronounced Loon Loon (those wacky Chinese, always after a cheap joke) and and the male Yang Yang (Oh Yeah) have fecundated their way to two cubs in two years. That is, let's say, the equivalent of ten sets of Irish twins in less than four years.
We are relieved to be able to report that the same can not be said of Ted Ted and Jane Jane.
I was able to capture a few shots of the proud Papa snacking his way through his version of the congratulatory cigar, a kagillion pounds of bamboo.
And yes, he was hungry again in two hours.
