We Americans used to be able to think for ourselves.
We Americans used to be genuine people capable of original thought and informed opinion. Opinion sharpened by in-person idea exchange and pure argument, not from behind the safety screen of cyberspace and definitely not by dumbed-down, common-denominating media of all forms.
We Americans, most obscenely, have come to believe our own bull-s**t.
We Americans used to have special powers: the power to be, the power to do and the power to see that the Emperor wore no clothes. Today we applaud the Emperor's fashion show.
We Americans are living in a house of cards with a short deck.
We Americans want to be told what to think, in canned thought-bite opinion to take to the water cooler.
Shame, shame, whisper shame on you.
We Americans could easily be called American'ts.
Stop it, people. Stop the hype. Open the curtain. Look behind the screen. The Wizard is NOT in. Turn away from the hypnotist and most of all, never look the MEdia in the eye.
Only you can put the I Can back into American.
Those are my thoughts.
I dare you to have your own.
